Prof. Dr. Michel Clement is a Dutch-German economist and professor of Marketing and Media Management at the University of Hamburg, where he has held the chair for Marketing & Media since 2006. His academic work spans marketing strategy, media products, digital technologies, and customer management, with research published in numerous international journals. Before his academic career, Michel gained industry experience in technology and media, including co-founding a software company within the Bertelsmann Group.
His international engagement includes visiting scholar roles at Penn State University (USA) and Jönköping International Business School (Sweden). At the University of Hamburg, he contributes to both research and teaching, focusing on how new media, entertainment technologies, and marketing innovations shape consumer behavior and market dynamics — including studies on startup ecosystems and funding landscapes in Northern Germany.
